Osceola County, Florida (Map It) was created on May 12, 1887 from Brevard County and Orange County. Osceola County was named for Osceola (1804–1838), a leader of the Seminole during the Second Seminole War.

Osceola County is bordered by Orange County (north), Brevard County (northeast), Indian River County (east), Okeechobee County (southeast), Highlands County (south), Polk County (west), Lake County (northwest).

Osceola Co. Historical Events:

  • The region suffered from the Indian Wars and somewhat during the Civil War. It was not until after this struggle that cattlemen began to make it one of the two greatest cattle raising counties in Florida.
  • Disston Canals completed in 1885.
  • St. Cloud settled as Grand Army of the Republic colony in 1905.
