Douglas County, Colorado (Map It) was created on November 1, 1861 as one of the 17 original counties of the Territory of Colorado. Douglas County was named in honor of Stephen Arnold Douglas, (1813 - 1861), U.S. Senator from Illinois from 1847 to 1861.

Douglas County is bordered by Jefferson County (west), Arapahoe County (north), Elbert County (east), El Paso County (southeast), Teller County (south).

Douglas County, CO Courthouse

The Douglas County Courthouse is located in Castle Rock, Colorado. Original county seat at Franktown. Small part of Cheyenne and Arapahoe Reservations added in 1870. Courthouse burned in 1978 but minimal loss of records. Learn More About State of Colorado Court, Tax, Land and Probate Records.
