Banks County, Georgia (Map It) was created on December 11, 1858 from Franklin County and Habersham County. Banks County was named in honor of Dr. Richard Banks (1784 - 1850), a local physician noted for treating natives with smallpox.

Banks County is bordered by  Habersham County (north), Stephens County (northeast), Madison County, Jackson County (south), Hall County (west), Franklin County (east).

Banks County, GA Courthouse

The Banks County Courthouse is located in Homer, Georgia. The first county courthouse was completed in 1863.
