Nowata County, Oklahoma (Map It) was created on July 16, 1907 from Cherokee lands. The county was named in honor of the town of Nowata, Oklahoma. The exact origin is unknown, but the two most common stories are that railroad surveyors used the Delaware word noweta for welcome or that a sign was posted indicating that local springs had no water: No wata

  • Nowata County Clerk's Office has Birth / Death Records from 1908 and Land Records from 1908. The County Clerk's Office is responsible for preserving all the legal instruments filed by private citizens and public officials with the County Clerk's office.
