Grant County, Kentucky (Map It) was created on February 12, 1820 from Pendleton County. The county was named in honor of Samuel Grant (1762–1789 or 1794), John Grant (1754–1826), and Squire Grant (1764–1833), three of the county's earliest settlers .

Grant County is bordered by Boone County (north), Kenton County (northeast), Pendleton County (east), Harrison County (southeast), Scott County (south), Owen County (west), Gallatin County (northwest).
