Morris County, Kansas (Map It) was created on August 25, 1855 as one of the original 36 counties. Originally named Wise County and was named for Henry A. Wise (1806-1876), an outspoken proponent of slavery, congressman from Virginia. The County was renamed Morris County on February 11, 1859. The county was named in honor of Thomas Morris, U.S. Senator from Ohio and anti-slavery advocate..
