Houston County, Georgia (Map It) was created on May 15, 1821 from Creek Cession of 1821. Portions of Houston County were used to create the following counties: DeKalb County, Bibb County, Pike County, and Crawford County (1822); Macon County (1837); and Peach County (1924). Houston County was named in honor of John Houstoun (1744-1796), member of the Continental Congress who became governor of Georgia in 1778. Learn More About State of Georgia History.
