* SITE OUTAGE * RAOGK and FamilyLink.com * BROCHURE UPDATE * SHOPS * KUDOS * IN APPRECIATION * CURRENT STATS SITE OUTAGE I sent out a special announcement on June 9 regarding our 3+ days that the site was not available. Instead of repeating what was said in that message and for those who either did not receive that message or are new to the site, you may read that message by following this link: http://raogk.org/newsletters/outage.txt We are still adjusting/tweaking minor little things on our servers and from time to time the site may not be reachable for very short periods of time. Please bear with us during this adjustment period. ***************** RAOGK and FamilyLink.com Last month I mentioned that two major genealogy websites have taken notice of RAOGK and you wonderful volunteers. I didn't mention any names due to the fact that I did not want to put a hex on anything. Earlier this month WorldVitalRecords.com issued a press release indicating that RAOGK and their networking site, FamilyLink.com, had partnered. You can read the press release by going to: http://www.pr.com/press-release/41872 FamilyLink.com is a social networking site that provides an innovative platform for individuals to connect, research family history, and preserve memories. FamilyLink.com has been created in a response to help genealogists from all over the world gather the information they need in a vibrantly efficient, fun, and easy way. Founded by Paul Allen in 2007, FamilyLink.com is a worldwide effort to help individuals collaborate on a global scale. FamilyLink.com is a really neat site. I've "puttered" around the site after joining. The site is still young yet, however, I think it will be the place to go to possibly find another new cousin or several. The site is free to join, and to post your information to, and will remain that way. RAOGK volunteers who sign up to FamilyLink.com will also be able to place a graphic on their personal profile page that will allow others to see that they are volunteers. We hope to be able to recruit additional volunteers and also help current FamilyLink.com members to connect with RAOGK volunteers as well. Check it out... here's the link to my little corner of the site: http://www.familylink.com/100695 ***************** BROCHURE UPDATE Also in May's newsletter I announced that we had a brochure online in PDF format that can be printed out and used as a handout if you needed one. The link to the brochure is: http://www.raogk.org/raogk-flyer.pdf I had requested that if you were going to make copies of this brochure that I would like to know that you would be doing so. This was just to give me a general idea of how well this item was accepted. I was amazed at response. Thank you so much for writing in and letting me know. NOTE: If you have already written in and said you were printing out the brochure, there is no need to let me know a second time, nor how many. Some of you had some problems in printing the brochure on both sides of the paper when the printer will do both sides at once. Here are some instructions (you may have to adapt to your own printer options, but this will give you a general idea): In Acrobat Reader set the page scaling to "None," it is already 8.5 x 11. If your printer automatically prints on both side of the page, turn off the "Auto Rotation". Then go into "Properties" and change page the layout to "Landscape". This might even stop problems on all printers. To make sure you are orienting side 1 and 2 correctly print one copy, that way you know which side goes in first for printing the other side. Choose number of copies you need and change Print Range to "Pages from 1 to 1", put your paper back in then repeat with "2 to 2". Unless you are familiar with "Subset: Odds & Even pages only". ***************** SHOPS RAOGK Logo Shop: http://www.cafepress.com/raogk/ Genealogy For You: http://www.cafepress.com/genealogyforyou Please visit our shops for t-shirts, mugs, caps, tote bags, sweatshirts, baby items and products for your home with a genealogy theme. Proceeds from both these shops help RAOGK pay the bills.
