A WARM WELCOME At this time we would like to welcome the 100 new volunteers that signed up during the month of October, and hope you enjoy being a volunteer as many of those people who have been around for awhile. We also had 68 volunteers leave for various reasons and 58 the staff removed due to their e-mail bouncing or being non-responsive. The staff doesn't ask too much from the volunteers, just keep us posted on any changes you may have by going to http://www.raogk.org/change.html instead of writing to us directly. Also, as always, please be sure to acknowledge receipt of a request, whether you can fulfill what is requested or not. WEBTV USERS Several volunteers have written in who use webtv indicating that they are having problems viewing the main page. I have tried to rectify this situation and do not know if I have accomplished this or not. Could those of you using webtv, please write to me at raogk@raogk.org (PLEASE DO NOT hit the reply button for this message it winds up in a mailbox that I do not check very often) and let me know if you are presently having problems viewing the main page. Thank You. KUDOS The messages keep coming in that the volunteers of this site are terrific and provide further information than is requested. To check out what people are saying about the site and individual volunteers you can go to http://www.raogk.org/guestbook/ and bask in the limelight. THAT TIME OF THE YEAR The next newsletter will not be going out until after the Christmas holidays. I want to take this time to let you know to be aware that this season brings computers to new users, which seems to open up the world of genealogy to those new users as well. You may receive requests that are off the wall, people wanting their whole family researched and just general "newbie" questions without a request at all. Please be patient with these folks and if you should receive a request that seems "out in left field," just send them to the FAQ pages for requesters (http://www.raogk.org/before.htm) so they may read the dos and don'ts of using our site. RESEARCHING IN CALIFORNIA? We received an advisory notice from one of our volunteers that as of January 1, 2003 no more transcripts of death certificates will be allowed. After that date if a person wishes a certificate they will have to order it for themselves. I don't want to over load our California volunteers, but if someone needs a death certificate transcription only, they best put in their request. The staff wishes each and every one of you the best of holiday seasons. If you are travelling, be safe; if you are staying home have a happy one. Until next month, RAOGK Staff
