Brief Directory Description
I can do research in Roanoke, Montgomery County, Scott County, and Wise County fairly easily, as I travel there often. Once or twice a month, I visit other parts of southwestern Virginia for genealogy research. I have a subscription to ancestry.com and access to local archives as well as my own books. I can also visit cemeteries if needed.
Volunteer Research Description

I'm a librarian as well as an amateur genealogist.

What I can research easily in SWVA (less than one week):
--any public library collection, from the Virginia Room at the Roanoke Main Library to the Lonesome Pine Regional Library
--any public college/university collection, from VA Tech to UVA Wise, including community college libraries
--lookups on ancestry.com

What I can research with a little more time (1-3 weeks):
--content held by SWVA historical and genealogical societies, museum collections, library special collections/archives, etc. Many of these places and organizations are only open a few times a week or only meet once a month, so getting to their research means making an appointment on their schedule
--Roanoke and Montgomery County, VA cemeteries for records and photographs

Things I can research but can't promise a timeline:
--SWVA cemeteries. Many family cemeteries are on private land and (as I've discovered through my own research) can be difficult to access. But I can certainly try!

If it has to do with SWVA, don't hesitate to ask.
