Ringgold County, Iowa (Map It) was created on February 24, 1847 (Organized in 1855) from Unorganized Territory. Ringgold County was named in honor of Samuel B. Ringgold (1796–1846), major killed in the the Mexican-American War.

Ringgold County is bordered by Union County (north), Decatur County (east), Harrison County, Missouri (southeast), Worth County, Missouri (southwest), Taylor County (west).

Courthouse History

The Ringgold County Courthouse is located in Mount Ayr, Iowa. Ringgold County was attached to Taylor County for a breif time prior to organization January 31, 1855.
